What are the requirements to rent a car in Dubai?
Tourists need a valid passport with a visit or tourist visa, their home country driving licence and a credit card for the security deposit. UAE residents need their Emirates ID and a valid UAE driving licence. All drivers must be at least 21 years old.
Do I need an International Driving Permit to rent a car in Dubai?
It depends on where your licence was issued. Visitors from around 50 countries on the UAE Ministry of Interior’s approved list, including the GCC countries, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, most of Europe, Japan and South Korea, can drive on their home licence. Visitors from other countries need an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as their home licence. Message us with your nationality before you book and we will confirm what you need.
Is a deposit required, and how is it handled?
Yes, a refundable security deposit is required to cover potential fines or damages. The deposit is blocked on your credit card and is typically released within 21 to 30 days after the rental ends, provided there are no traffic violations or damage.
What does the rental price include?
Our prices include standard comprehensive insurance, VAT and a generous mileage allowance. Fuel, tolls (Salik and Darb) and traffic fines are the responsibility of the renter. Additional insurance and services are available for complete peace of mind.
Can I drive a rental car outside of Dubai?
Yes. You can drive a Next Ride car to any emirate, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. Driving to other countries, including Oman, is not permitted.
How do I pay for my car rental?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, and cash for certain bookings. A credit card is required for the refundable deposit.
Is fuel included in the rental price?
No. The car is handed over with a set fuel level and should be returned at the same level. If the level is lower on return, a refuelling charge applies.
What is the process for renting a car at Dubai Airport?
Once you book, our representative meets you in the arrivals hall at DXB or DWC to complete the paperwork and hand over the keys.
Can I add a second driver to my rental?
Yes. An additional driver can be added to the rental agreement for a small fee. The second driver must meet the same age and licence requirements.
What is a Salik toll and how does it work?
Salik is Dubai’s automatic road toll system. Each time you pass a Salik gate, a toll is recorded against the car. We track your Salik usage and charge the total at the end of your rental.
What happens if I get a traffic fine in a rental car?
Traffic fines in the UAE are registered against the car’s plate. We will notify you of the fine and settle it from your security deposit or credit card.
What happens if the car breaks down or I have an accident?
Contact Next Ride straight away. We will guide you through the next steps, arrange recovery if needed and help with a replacement car. After an accident we will also tell you which documents you need and support you through the insurance process.
